Aged Care Assessment Process

Understanding aged care funding can feel confusing. CuraOne helps families understand the general steps, prepare for conversations, and arrange non-clinical home and community support once services are approved or privately funded.

Check Eligibility on My Aged Care

This link opens the official My Aged Care eligibility checker. CuraOne does not assess government eligibility.

Who may be eligible for an aged care assessment?

You may be able to apply for a My Aged Care assessment if you are:

  • 65 years or older
  • 50 years or older and identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • A younger person with disability, dementia or other care needs that are not met through other specialist services

If you are unsure, contact My Aged Care directly on 1800 200 422 or use their online eligibility checker.

How the assessment process works

1

Check eligibility

Use the My Aged Care eligibility checker or call My Aged Care.

2

Apply for an assessment

If eligible, apply online or by phone through My Aged Care.

3

Prepare for your assessment

Think about your daily needs, health, home safety, mobility, transport, social support and current challenges.

4

Attend your assessment

The assessment may look at what help you need at home, in the community and with daily living.

5

Receive your outcome

You may receive information about approved services, support level, funding pathway or next steps.

6

Arrange services

Once funding or approval is clear, CuraOne may assist with approved non-clinical support, private-pay support or provider-authorised services.

Ways to access support

Private Pay

For clients and families who want to pay directly for agreed non-clinical support. No government assessment is required for private-pay services.

Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP)

Entry-level support for people who need low-level help to remain living safely and independently at home. Government assessment is required.

Support at Home / Home Care Package Pathway

For people with more ongoing or complex home support needs. Services must be approved and authorised through the relevant aged care process or provider.

Already assessed or waiting for approval?

If you have already applied for My Aged Care, are waiting for an assessment outcome, or already have an approved provider, CuraOne may be able to discuss private-pay support or provider-authorised non-clinical services.
